ABOUT US
The inspiration for the creation of Isabel’s Brazilian Flavours brand was born out of my lifelong passion for cooking. Since I was a child I adored cooking. I didn’t eat anything without questioning my mum about what herbs or spices were in it and how it was cooked. Just pursuing my interest for natural and exotic ingredients lead me to set up the company, as I wanted to share my enthusiasm for these little-known ingredients and introduce new flavours, particularly ones from my home country of Brazil, to a wider audience.
Further more it occurred to me that Brazilian cooking culture does not depend as much upon wheat-based products, and there appeared to be a real need for great tasting gluten and wheat free foods. I’m not coeliac, but having read about the condition and being a great advocate for all things natural, I realised I had some special recipes worth sharing.
I hope that my unique brand of foods will capture your imagination, with its aims to introduce and cultivate a taste for Brazilian inspired foods. Our mission is to produce great-tasting and interesting foods. Our quality products are naturally gluten & wheat free, suitable for vegetarians, without additives, preservatives, artificial colours and flavourings, hydrogenated fats, and low in salt. Or to put it another way, just great natural food, with no nasties!
Based in Yorkshire
I live in a small village in West Yorkshire with my husband and children. Here I started developing my products around 2004. The ingredients I use in my recipes are very special to me and I enjoy preparing them for my family and friends. Indeed, I had been told so many times how delicious and wonderful they were that when I was choosing the recipes, the old favourites ticked all the right boxes for turning my ideas into successful products.
It has taken five years to come this far, but I always had a passionate belief in the products I created. And a desire to create a new and exciting brand, which authentically reflects a different food culture, that’s not currently widely appreciated. It’s been a long journey, but it has really been worthwhile. The feedback I’ve received from so many of you has been great.
Travelling around the country to attend speciality food fairs can be very rewarding. You get to meet lots of different people and receive consumers’ feedback on the spot. I like the immediacy of their reactions. Also I get quite moved when customers take the time to write in to express how much they enjoy my products. It makes all the effort worthwhile.
Our cheesebreads have clearly been a refreshing change for those looking for naturally gluten-free savoury options for themselves or their family. The pizza base mix is continuing to make a lot of folks happy with its amazing texture and tasty flavour. My excitement for unique exotic fruits, has led the way for a small range of preserves which are set to stir up a taste sensation.
Handmade in Yorkshire, our preserves are bursting with little known fruits in the UK, each holding great memories –as a child, I was fascinated by all the different textures, delicious flavours and smells of fruits available in my homeland in South America. The guava fruit, in particular, is really special to me. I ate so much of this fruit when I was growing up – I could even tell you what the bark of the guava fruit tree tastes like!
We are committed supporters of the region that we live in and the local economy, and try to reach a balance by working with regional companies as much as possible. Occasionally we must work with companies from around the country, as well as with small Brazilian producers. Realistically it is not possible to grow spices, nuts, olive oils, tropical roots and fruits in the UK, and so some of the ingredients used to produce our food products must be sourced from abroad.
I hope you’ll continue to support us by trying our products and recommending them to your friends and family.
I’d welcome your comments, and would be delighted to discuss my recipes or any of my products with you.
